Which Fruit Contains The Most Vitamin C Science Project
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of our body. It helps in boosting the immune system, collagen production, and iron absorption. Our body cannot produce Vitamin C, so it's important to get it from food sources. Fruits are one of the best sources of Vitamin C, and in this science project, we will discover which fruit contains the most Vitamin C.
What You Will Need
To conduct this science project, you will need the following:
- 5 different types of fruits - oranges, lemons, kiwis, strawberries, and mangoes
- Cutter or knife to cut the fruits
- Blender to extract the juice
- Vitamin C test kit
- Measuring cylinder
Procedure
Follow the below steps to conduct the science project:
- Take one fruit at a time and extract its juice in a blender.
- Take a few drops of the extracted juice in a test tube and add a few drops of the Vitamin C test solution.
- Shake the test tube gently and wait for a few minutes for the color to change.
- Compare the color of the test solution with the color chart provided in the test kit.
- Repeat the above steps for all 5 fruits and note down the test results.
Results
After conducting the tests, you will have the following results:
- Oranges - 53 mg/100 ml
- Lemons - 38 mg/100 ml
- Kiwis - 70 mg/100 ml
- Strawberries - 59 mg/100 ml
- Mangoes - 36 mg/100 ml
Conclusion
From the above results, we can conclude that Kiwis contain the most Vitamin C amongst the 5 fruits tested. It has 70 mg of Vitamin C per 100 ml. So, if you want to boost your Vitamin C intake, you should include Kiwis in your diet. This science project is a fun way to learn about the importance of Vitamin C and the different sources of it.
